Role Description:

Key Responsibilities

The Inclusive Education Leader has a key role, with the Learning & Teaching Team, in the design, implementation and evaluation of programs to support the learning needs of all students, particularly those students with special education needs, gifted and talented students and indigenous students. 

The Inclusive Education Leader is also responsible for overseeing the process for students who are funded, or seeking funding, through the government’s Nationally Consistent Collection of Data scheme. 

 

Professional Learning

  • Be responsible for the continual upskilling of staff members with NCCD practices. This includes supporting:

    • Best teaching practices for students with needs

    • How to record learning adjustments

    • Staff with expanding their knowledge of students with ASD, Intellectual Disabilities and Specific Learning Disabilities (e.g. Dyslexia). 

    • To support staff with screeners and additional documentation - e.g. ABLES Social Emotional to have a greater knowledge of their student.  

  • To support growth and development for Learning Support Officers (LSO).

  • Build capacity of teaching expertise and knowledge of effective, evidence-based teaching practices to improve student learning across the curriculum with a focus on literacy and numeracy; 

  • Liaise with the Learning & Teaching Team in regard to the direction of professional learning for teachers and Learning Support Officers 

  • Liaise with Catholic Education Sandhurst for support for teachers, LSO staff and learners 

  • Attend Learner Diversity network meetings and NCCD briefings as required 

  • Maintain current professional learning in accordance with the current practice to supports school’s focus 

  • Ensure training is current for all areas of OHS :manual handling to support students with disabilities 

  • Provide access to specialised training for teachers and school officers to work with identified students who have specific needs; 

  • Coaching and modelling lessons, providing feedback to teachers and modifying future planning as a result of the feedback; 

  • Work with school leadership to ensure a whole school approach to planning for students with diverse learning needs.

 

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data scheme

  • Provide support for staff and families in the development and implementation of Personal Learning Plans for students with NCCD funding and those identified as ‘at risk’ in the classroom 

  • Monitor the effectiveness of adjustments on the PLP in achieving goals

  • Coordinate the PSG meeting timetable 

  • Attend PSG meetings for learners in order to follow up on actions from the meeting 

  • Check the recording of all PSG meetings and ensure documents are signed and dated 

  • Support Curriculum Leaders and individual teachers in identifying students whose educational needs require intervention, by analysing data on student achievement, observing and assessing students both formally and informally, and examining the results of diagnostic testing; 

  • Facilitate collaborative teaching and planning for all students who require adjustments to the curriculum; 

  • Assist teachers in developing evidenced based intervention strategies 

  • Administer standardised and diagnostic assessments to inform intervention programs; 

  • Ensures all teachers have recorded adjustments for each student and records evidence of these adjustments in system wide record management system; 

  • Ensure current Individual Education and Learning Plans (PLP’s) are in place for identified students; 

  • Maintain and update files for all students on PLP’s, including hard or electronic copies 

  • Complete and submit any referral documentation 

  • Oversee the appraisal of OHS requirements on Camps and Excursions for students with special needs and share this information with the Camp Coordinator 

  • Support transition from Pre-school to Foundation for students with special needs. 

  • Support transition to the relevant Secondary School. 

  • Meetings with parents and outside agencies 

  • Enrolment meetings with families of students with special needs entering the school 

  • Coordinate specialists and therapists, with parent approval, to prepare student assessments, where needed 

  • Analyse and interpret assessment reports to support teachers and parents 

  • Manage the Therapy and Equipment funding applications and Coordinate the purchase of relevant resources to assist students with disabilities. 

 

Data Collection

  • Embrace the use of information and communications technologies to enhance learning 

  • Engage in learning progress discussions 

  • Leading staff in analysing and using data to identify and inform continuous improvement. 

  • Assist in effectively gathering NCCD data and uploading in conjunction with the Learning & Teaching Team.

  • With the Learning & Teaching Team, to review students who are not showing growth post intervention and to assist in developing a plan of support for these students.  

 

Leadership

  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with all members of the Learning & Teaching Team.

  • To liaise with the Principal and Deputy Principal: Learning & Teaching and unit of teachers  to develop a weekly timetable for each LSO. This timetable is to be shared with the Principal, Deputy Principal and Learning Diversity leader. 

 

Communicate

  • Communicate effective learning and teaching strategies and PLC processes to the Learning & Teaching Team, Learning Leaders and Teachers and Learning Support Officers. .

 

Intervention

  • Liaise with teachers and Learning & Teaching leaders to develop focussed teaching strategies for those students who are in need of support and those who require further extension based on evidence based research. 

  • Ensure differentiation of tasks is planned for and implemented across the units. 

  • Work with class teachers  to assist with students with diverse learning needs. 

  • To coordinate specialists, with parent approval, to prepare student assessments, where needed. 

  • To analyse assessment reports - eg. specialist reports, and determine, with teachers, ways to enact the recommendations of these reports into classroom practice. 

  • Develop Diversity & Inclusion Programs and practices and facilitate instruction and student learning based on current reading and research; 

  • Work with Curriculum Leaders and Classroom Teachers to plan, implement and review learning programs to support student Diversity & Inclusion development.

  • Support curriculum differentiation for Diversity & Inclusion to cater for the range of abilities, interests and backgrounds of all students 

  • Using data lead intervention and extension processes to support explicit teaching and learning of various needs of students 

  • Seek resources, supports and strategies to implement intervention and extension curriculum for classroom teachers and LSO’s 

  • Assist learning leaders in ensuring the variability of students learning needs are addressed 

  • Collaborate with teachers to assess and use evidence-based practices to improve student performance.

  • Be a member of the Learning & Teaching Team

 

 

Selection criteria:

  • Qualifications and Experience

    • A degree in education, neurodiversity, or a related field.

    • Experience in a leadership role within a school setting, with a focus on learning diversity management and incusion.

    • Understanding of and commitment to the Catholic faith and its application in an educational context.

     

    Skills and Abilities

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.

    • Ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

    • Proficiency in data analysis and the use of data to inform practice and decision-making.
