The Role

As a School Improvement Leader, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of education and ensuring the safety and well-being of students across our Catholic schools. You will lead a cohort of schools, driving continuous improvement, ensuring compliance, and supporting school leaders to operate with confidence and in alignment with CESL’s mission and values.

  • Title: School Improvement Leader
  • Salary per year: $190,550 (annual)
  • FTE:  1 FTE
  • Employment Status: Fixed Term – until January 2027
  • Location: Bendigo
  • Other Requirements: VIT or Employee WWCC and National Police Check, Drivers License
  • Potential start date: January 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Embody and promote the principles of Catholic Teaching, fostering a sense of community and shared mission across schools.
  • Oversee and report on compliance, ensuring schools meet regulatory requirements and adhere to CESL policies.
  • Provide guidance to principals and school leaders, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to address complex issues in key areas such as safeguarding, finance, human resources, and learner growth.

About You

  • You will hold a Masters in Education or related field; Victorian Institute of Teaching registration; and a current unrestricted Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Proven experience in school leadership or educational administration, with a strong understanding of governance and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and students. Strong analytical skills and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Deep commitment to the mission and values of Catholic Education, with a passion for supporting the holistic development of students and school communities.

In 2025, a diocesan first, a comprehensive and exciting new learning and teaching program was simultaneously launched across over 50 Catholic schools in the Sandhurst Diocese. 

Magnify Sandhurst will be introduced across 2025 to 2027, with each phase designed to bring measurable improvements in each learning environment. 

Magnify Sandhurst is set to transform learning for students with more specific and explicit teaching practices, bringing greater consistency and a more predictable and effective education experience for all students. 

The Magnify Sandhurst program combines evidence-based practices in teaching and learning to support each student's unique needs, strengths, and goals, focusing on strengthening core areas like literacy and numeracy, building supportive classroom environments, and integrating Catholic values in daily learning.

About the CESL Office

The CESL Office Team comprises of close to 150 employees working across 7 key functional areas, supporting over 50 schools and early childhood centres within the Sandhurst Diocese. We are a supportive and friendly team who are committed to working collaboratively with our schools to achieve the best outcomes possible for our students. With office locations in Bendigo, Wangaratta and Tatura.
